villa barbaro maser the temple andrea palladio

Located in an area rich in outstanding natural beauty, on the Asolo Hills, Villa Barbaro is certainly one of the highest achievements of Andrea Palladio (1554-1560), and is protected by Unesco as other Palladian Villas.

Built for the humanist Daniele Barbaro and his brother Marcantonio, ambassador of the Republic of Venice, is a beautiful building in the countryside, ant it has in common with Villa Capra "La Rotonda" the fact that it was designed as a "retreat" for meditation and studio, so with a sacred atmosphere.

The visit to this Villa is a unique opportunity to admire the numerous, wonderful frescoes by Paolo Veronese, one of the greatest artists of his time. At the main residence is combined a small temple, also by Palladio.

It 's the first time in which the great architect introduces one of its main innovations: to unite the house with "barns", arcaded buildings, by elongated appearance, originally a shelter for animals, foodstuffs and agricultural tools.

As the vast majority of the Venetian Villas, is privately owned, and also is still inhabited by the owners, well preserved and visitable; moreover, it is seat of a farm which produces a wine DOC (protected origin mark).  Near the Villa you can enjoy a "light lunch" based on local food and wine, or buy wine and souvenirs.

In short, as other, Villa Barbaro is a successful example of a still alive Villa, where visitors can unwind from their daily lives and immerse themselves in the suggestions of the stories and legends of yore.
