monselice euganean hill the castle

At the foot of the hill of the walled town of Monselice we find the remarkable complex of Monselice Castle, originally a mansion, then castle and then evolved in Venetian Villa.

The look however is still which of a castle. It consists of four parts: the Romanesque House, the Castelletto (little castle), the Tower Ezzeliniana and Ca 'Marcello.

The visit, possible only with the internal guide on a scheduled basis (usually every hour) is particularly interesting because you can see many original, or however well preserved rooms, like the bedrooms, several lounges, kitchens etc. The care that has had the current owner (family Cini) in making an accurate collection and recovery of original pieces of the time, ensure that the visitor is able to experience the real medieval atmosphere.

Very rich is the collection of ancient weapons, always located inside the dwelling.

Finally, an important note: from the place where the castle stands , a very beautiful and suggested short walk begins:  it's the walk along the Trail of Seven Churches, along which there are six small chapels, dedicated to as many Roman basilicas; visiting them you are right to the plenary indulgence, as established by the Catholic Church.   The seventh church is the Sanctuary of St. George, the arrival point of the Via Sacra.

At the end, there is the beautiful Villa Duodo (not open to the visits). The owners of this Villa, the noble family Duodo precisely, commissioned the architect Vincenzo Scamozzi (student of Palladio) the construction of the path.

From Monselice definitely worth  the visit of other walled towns of Este and Montagnana, or trekking tour in the area of the Euganean Hills and their beauty. A short distance away, finally, in the village of Battaglia Terme, you find the Catajo Castle (Castello del Catajo).

Not far from here, we find the thermal centers of Abano Terme and Montegrotto.
