villa caldogno palladio external view

Villa Caldogno, born from the renovation of a farmhouse, is situated in the municipality of Caldogno, a few kilometers from Vicenza. It was designed in 1542 by great architect Andrea Palladio.

Characterized by three large arches inserted in the main facade, style is simple and pleasant.

Inside there are many richly frescoed rooms, like all other Palladian Villas. The authors are Giovanni Battista Zelotti, Giovanni Antonio Fasolo, Giulio Carpioni, so we are faced with works by major artists of the period.  The subjects depicted are different, ranging from classical mythological scenes and scenes depicting life in Villa: parties, lounges in the country, lunches, etc.

These images are very fresh, even for the green landscapes that appear, that recall a bucolic and fairytale world.

The Villa can be combined with a visit to Vicenza, for its short distance from the city, and also examine the Palladian Villas of the northern Vicenza (Villa Godi Malinverni and the adjacent Villa Piovene), as well as the Castello Colleoni in Thiene.
