villa valmarana at the foot of Berici Hills the external wall wiyh dwarfs statues

It is worth to walk the few hundred meters which separate the Villa Capra "La Rotonda" from this other gem, Villa Valmarana "Ai Nani" which is also considered one of the most beautiful Venetian Villas.

The position in which it stands is absolutely charming, and the walk that takes to reach it, which then continues it in the direction of Monte Berico, is one of the most romantic and picturesque of Vicenza. The Villa, built in the 17th, was restored and rearranged during the 18 th century by the architect Francesco Muttoni.

It's well known in the world because its interiors are completely frescoed by Giambattista Tiepolo and his son Giambattista.

The father painted  the main house, the son the so-called "foresteria" (the wing of Villa in which are located the guest's rooms).  Externally, the Villa is a very harmonious complex, with the garden decorated with statues, and the boundary wall, absolutely special, all decorated with stone dwarfs who stand as sentinels at the top, and from which is derived the nickname given to the Villa.

Frescoed interiors are splendid for the colors, the delicacy, and the choice of themes: mythological stories and inspired by classical literature to Giambattista (Aeneid, Orlando Furioso, Jerusalem Freed, etc.); and completely different themes (life in the country, noble ladies strolling, holidays and Carnival, etc.) for his son. Interesting is to see the clear difference in style between the two generations, even index of a mutation rather consistent in taste of the era in which the two protagonists lived: and an evidence of two different ways yo interprete and see the world.
