villa foscari la malcontenta front facade

Villa Foscari "La Malcontenta" is located in one of the most well-known and admired tourist site of Veneto, the Riviera del Brenta, which is overlooked by many Venetian Villas.

The channel starts from Padua and goes directly to Venice, is fully navigable and today visitors can sail it by a reconstruction of an ancient "burchiello", which is the original name of the typical boats plying these waters.

Imagine going back in time, at a time when the streets were few, slow and unsafe, and the waterways were the most important and reliable means of communication. Here, the channel of the Brenta was a kind of continuation of the Grand Canal of Venice on the mainland, and was therefore the privileged window on which many aristocratic families chose to build their mansions, competing, as was the custom of the time, in building the most beautiful and representative residence.

The Villa Foscari fits into this magnificent setting. Directly overlooking the canal, which is languidly reflected , and that gives the building a romantic and a little decadent look. Typical Palladian Villa, the main entrance which obviously overlooks the channel, stands on the staircase, and is preceded by a loggia (porch) topped by a pediment, adorned with statues.

The main floor of the villa is entirely frescoed by several important painters of the period, with mostly mythological themes.
More than others, this house is built in the style of Roman temples.

It also has an unique features, such as two staircases which go sideways toward the arcaded loggia entry.

Very interesting is the park of Villa.

Venice is located a few kilometers from here, and it's possible to get there directly by boat : contact us for more informations.
